Dominican Republic Weather

The Dominican Republic is defined as a semi-tropical zone offering perfect weather conditions for vacations year around.

Climate

Located at 17°36' - 19°58' latitude, the average temperature year around is 77°F / 25°C. The temperature in the summer months, from May through October, will range from 89-95°F / 31-35°C and the winter temperatures, from November through April, will be 75-90°F / 24-32°C. The hottest month of the year is August and the coolest is January. Tour inland during the cooler season and you will need a coat; it gets pretty chilly and can even drop below freezing in the higher elevations

The island has two rainy seasons, one in late spring and the other in late fall. The northern coast of the island receives the most rain through the year. Annual precipitation is around 60 inches (1500mm) but the highlands, which remain cool through the year, receive much more. Tropical hurricane season is from June to November and traditionally hit the east or south coasts. The north coast is virtually untouched by these storms because of the soaring inland mountains.

Weather Reports

The villa is located in the town of Cabrera which is too small to have an international weather report. The nearest we can come is Puerto Plata but the weather in Puerto Plata is not always the same as Cabrera. Mostly this is because Cabrera faces east and Puerto Plata faces the north; this causes very different weather patterns between the two.

Get the current weather report for Cabrera, Dominican Republic from The Miami Herald or from Weather Underground.
